End of Broadcast – Announcement

After 4 years, we have made the hard decision to end our ZCast journey.

This has not been an easy decision, and we did not take it lightly.

ZCast started as an attempt to leverage our passion for the art-form of Podcasting, as a driver to build a better platform for audio content creators who care about content but are far from getting excited geeking out about microphone models, USB interfaces and mixer audio characteristics.

Over the years we have seen thousands of creators starting their way on our platform, growing from an idea to successful shows, with a few highlights like Missing Alissa who made it to the top 10 charts on iTunes, and “Hightec in Traffic” that become a show on a real radio station.

Unfortunately, startups are sometimes unpredictable and things change in rapid speed, at times for the best, but too many times for the worst.

This is, unfortunately, our final broadcast for ZCast.

Shutdown timeline

ZCast will run in minimal capacity between now and the end of January 2019, and will then shut down indefinitely.

If you have any content you recorded on ZCast that you wish to download, we have enabled the download feature to all users.

To download any episode you own, go to your personal ZCast’s page (https://zcast.co/my) (authenticate if needed), and use the ••• button next to each episode to locate the “Download MP3” option.

For those who have an entire RSS feed, please start by choosing a new hosting provider for your podcast, and look for their instruction on how to import an existing RSS feed into their platform. Most if not all of the major podcasting services have this feature, or if not, have some instructions on how to do it (but frankly, if they don’t have an import feature, you probably want to keep searching for a different hosting provider, if you get my drift).

To find your old RSS link on ZCast, open the RSS menu on your MY CASTS page  (again authenticate if needed) and click to copy your RSS feed.

Configure HTTP 301 Redirect

You can set your new RSS feed as what is known as “301 Permanent Redirect” into ZCast, by opening your podcast RSS feed editor on our web-app (not available through the iOS app), and set a permanent redirect url in the new option we have added to help you with the transition.

Once the new URL is verified, it will be set as your permanent redirect and once saved, any request to your old RSS feed on ZCast will be sent to your new RSS feed automatically and permanently. This will continue to work as long as ZCast is still running, and therefore you want to make sure you have done this no later than Jan 27th, to give all your subscribers and the Podcast indexing services enough time to detect this change.

It has been a blast being a part of your podcasting journey

Don’t stop just because we did. The world needs more amazing podcasts.

Thank you for entrusting us with your art, and sorry for not being able to stay here for as long as we hoped.
